Red Hook Plaza (the "Plaza") is a neighborhood shopping center located on the eastern end of St. Thomas. The 2.2 acre site is well situated across from a marina and the Red Hook ferry dock , the primary point of departure to the island of St. John. The Plaza was originally constructed in 1976 and contained approximately 24,000 square feet of lease space; an additional 12,000 square feet was added in 1987. Lockhart purchased the Plaza in 1995.
There are 20 tenants located in the two level main structure. Level one is leased to retail tenants, including a neighborhood market, a pharmacy, and a retail branch of a major commercial bank. The second level, which can be accessed by stairs from the front or at grade from the rear of the Plaza, contains a hardware store, several retail shops, office suites, and a mail service. There is a 1,000 square foot building in the front leased to a restaurant.
Red Hook Plaza has thrived over the last ten years as Red Hook has emerged as a new "town" with its customer traffic generated by the marine industry, neighboring hotels and condominiums and the residents of nearby islands. The Plaza has fostered a portion of this growth by offering, through its tenant mix, basic staples, goods and services. Red Hook Plaza also serves the residents of nearby St. John and the British Virgin Islands who regularly commute by ferry to St. Thomas for shopping and professional services.
